Author Information

With so many publishers and so many different requirements we want to give you some information on the submission of manuscripts, the process and what to expect.

How to submit?

AP only accepts Holocaust memoirs and Holocaust-related literature (non-fiction), with a wordcount of no less than 60.000. No novels or Historical Fiction!!

We are a so-called hybrid publisher; we ask a one-time fee, but give a large proportion of the royalties to the author, much larger than most other publishers AND we select only a small percentage of all manuscripts sent to us.

You can send your entire manuscript (not just a chapter!) to the publisher

  • info on genre (Holocaust memoir / Holocaust biography)
  • in Word (no PDF!)
  • accompanied by a bookblurb (enticing book description of 1 to 2 paragraphs)
  • accompanied by an author bio (and photo)
  • do not send via a server or Google docs, simply send to info[at]amsterdampublishers.com or per WeTransfer.
  • manuscripts should be formatted using US spelling, with minimal formatting. Chapter titles do not need to be capitalized or centralized. No page breaks or paragraph breaks
  • hard copies sent via the post will not be considered.
  • the accompanying email should contain how the manuscript fits with the Holocaust mission of Amsterdam Publishers.
  • Amsterdam Publishers only accepts original work. If part of your submission has appeared elsewhere (personal websites, blogs or magazine articles), please let us know.

We only accept a VERY small number of all manuscripts that are being sent to us.

The publishing schedule is full for 2025.

We tend to evaluate submissions within 2 months maximum. No further correspondence is possible for rejections. If a manuscript is declined we will not be engaging in conversations as to the reasons why. Some manuscripts are simply not good enough, or are not a good fit.

What can you expect from Amsterdam Publishers?

  • High standards. All books stand out by their quality. We use the very best technology to make your book available as print-on-demand paperback, hardcover and eBook.
  • Global coverage.
  • Metadata research. We use sophisticated software to determine the best categories for your book. The choice of categories can make the difference between a non-seller and a bestseller.
  • Online book promotion
  • Representation at international book fairs. When our schedule allows it, we will attend the Frankfurt Bookfair (October) and the London Book fair (April), the two most important book fairs in the world, bringing along the books of our bestselling authors to negotiate foreign rights.
  • We are in contact with Foreign Rights agents so they can purchase the license for your foreign language translations.
  • ISBN assignment to ebook, paperback, hardback.
  • One-on-one author support. We will take you by the hand in the process and continue to give our guidance and moral support after your book has seen the light. You will have a voice throughout the entire process.
  • Information. We tend to keep our authors informed via our AP Author News emails.
  • Full control. In every stage of the process, the author is in full control of the end product.

Every author is different, having his or her own challenges and aspirations. Your goal, however, remains the same as ours: a high-quality book with maximum visibility. We make sure that your book is the best it can possibly be!
