The Adventures of Cedric the Bear, a creative read you can enjoy together with your child
In Part One, Cedric is having an exciting time being the centre of attention in the V&A Museum. When a young man called Troy decides to bear-nap Cedric, things take an alarming turn. Freddie and Julie, two young children who witness this crime, decide to play detective.
In Part Two, Cedric meets the Button Bear, trapped in a dark, miserable basement living with the meanest tailor in London. Cedric gathers a team of chums from London Zoo, Polo the penguin and a cheeky gang of squirrel monkeys, and is determined to rescue the Button Bear and to help him find his way home.
In Part Three, Cedric sets off to Paris for a long-overdue reunion with his cousin, Velours, a blue velvet cat. Cedric was shocked to see that Velours was now disabled; one of her back legs has been replaced with a rubber wheel after a horrible accident. Cedric’s sadness quickly disappears when he realises that Velours hasn’t let her disability hold her back, in fact, he was thrilled to learn that she was about to run in Le Grand Dash, the biggest race in the Pet Paralympics – and she is the favourite to win!
Cedric the bear is the original creation of Katie Eggington
Both Cedric and Katie were featured in the BBC programme, Paul Martin’s Handmade Revolution. Katie was one of the winning designers and Cedric was proudly displayed in the V&A Museum shop.
On seeing the programme, Lucia Wilson decided to approach Katie to discuss creating a series of children’s stories based on Cedric. Anne Bowes (a talented illustrator and jewellery designer) joined the project and has created some delightful illustrations. Lucia, Katie and Anne worked together to bring Cedric to life in these three stories.
What fun stories! These Cedric the Bear stories will take you on new adventures around Europe and introduce you to interesting characters and situations that will grab your curiosity and intrigue your mind. Learn about the Pet Paralympics and more. The delightful and uniquely created images which are in a neat combination of black and white plus color, add nice visual stimulation to the stories. My favorite story was "Cedric in Paris" and I love the way French is woven into some expressions, which is especially useful because I happen to be studying French now! If you are looking for for an imaginative book that will touch your curiosity and take you to a few interesting places in Europe, this book will be great for you and your elementary-aged children!

Really enjoying reading this book with my son! Three different tales following Cedric the bear, each with an engaging story and lovely illustrations. I like how it's based on a real handmade teddy bear which really brings the story to life. Thoroughly recommend!

What a lovely book. Cedric is a Bear woven into life by Katie, he manages to have some great adventures including being bearnapped! Interwoven into the tales are life skills that children need should learn, e.g. how to share and not interrupting.
The stories are brought to life by the beautiful illustrations which our son particularly enjoyed looking at. You can imagine what Cedric would have looked like in real life!
These heartwarming tales can be enjoyed by the whole family and would particularly suit children aged 7-10. I would thoroughly recommend this book.

To tell the truth, when I started reading this book, I thought it was about a unique way of introducing the wonderful art of weaving to kids but guess what, that ain’t so. It’s a kids' mystery, written in such a delightful and adventurous way. As I keep turning page after page, I became captivated and smitten with this tale, I love it bearknapping and all.
