Owning an antique mirror shop brings in many different buyers. The buyers are usually looking for something special for their home, but Rhona seems to be extra special to Luke and seems to need more attention. Luke definitely has no problem giving her extra attention even though he and Eva have happily been together for years. Rhona seems to be become an obsession for Luke. Luke tries to find every opportunity to see Rhona, and he day dreams about their meetings and re-lives them. Rhona's husband, Alden, and Eva's Client, Agnes, have a link to both Luke and Eva because Agnes had an affair with Alden and at one of her therapy session reveals some information that shocks Eva because it can't be true can it? We follow Luke through his days as he becomes more obsessed with Rhona and more distant with Eva. When the connection of Alden and Rhona now affects Luke and Eva, the story line takes another turn. I did not like Rhona at all - she was manipulative and only cared about herself. Luke was naive about the situation and needed to think straight. Alden was a bit flighty and seemed like a fake. Agnes was a help to Eva. Eva was sweet. The characters were very well developed, and their feelings seemed to pop out of the pages helping you add yourself into the situation and fit in perfectly. Mr. Bundock does a marvelous job with his descriptions and details of every event. The story line moves along quickly and holds your interest as new twists and facts turn up along with different story lines that add new characters. I enjoyed this book because of the characters and the bit of mystery. The characters were intriguing, seemed real, and made decisions that may have been made by people that are not characters in a book. The ending was not what I had expected, but was surprising and good. The entire book was an enjoyable read. Mr. Bundock is an author to take a look at.

Very interesting premise that is far more complex in reality than you will think. I appreciated that the author showed us little by little the depth of the characters. Two of the main characters are middle-aged in a long term relationship and in a quiet, peaceful community. I felt that the author used that slow, deliberate pace as to how we understand the characters, how they understand themselves and how the story eventually unfolds. Well structured and very compelling.

I came across this book and took an interest in it as I spent some time in this area of Norfolk. We have the opportunity to share in the daily life of the English countryside filled with intrigue, romance, travel to a small island and land home again. The Mirror Shop is a page turner that will keep you engaged till the end. Enjoy.

I enjoyed very much reading “The mirror shop”, a novel that, without rush, succeed in recreates the atmosphere of a small town in Norfolk. Furniture, paintings and all kind of objects, but mainly mirrors, help to tell the story. It reveals not only the sensibility of the narrator, but they are also delineating the events and the characters. Tradition and routine mark the protagonist’s life, but things can change in a minute as happens with the reflections in the mirrors when the light changes: “Within twenty minutes rain is falling. No longer competing with the sun, the mirrors assume another life.” But before the intrusion of a mysterious woman in the orderly life of Luke, everything looks perfect: “-‘Some things can be at their best the moment before they fall apart.’ With a paused rhythm, the story leads the protagonist to the edge of the abyss. Order was broken. Seduction is the name of the game. A good handling of suspense complement the pleasure of reading. Congratulations Nicholas Bundock on your first novel.

How the past can lead you down a road that you really don’t want to travel! Luke, a mirror dealer, leads a safe existence in a market town surrounded by the English countryside. On the surface, he and his long-term partner, Eva, a psychotherapist, seem happy. But when a younger woman enters his shop past history breaks through the tranquil surface of their lives, leading Luke to a world where murder is his only option. What did I like? This was a very interesting book that features the problems of middle-aged couples. I was very impressed with the take on the situation and how it leads to such desperate measures. When a person thinks that all is right with their life how such an innocent thing can lead to such turmoil. I loved the small town atmosphere and I think that I would love to live in such an area. What will you like? Seduction and turmoil temp a middleaged man and he just can’t say NO! You will love all the unique characters and the way the author leads you right into their lives. The descriptions and details are enticing and refreshing with the small town feeling. With such tender emotions, the author leads us through the enticement and seduction of the sirens song. Then how wrong that song can lead them through the complexity of emotions in relationships. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it.

"When talking about relationship dynamics, I especially appreciated the way Nicholas Bundock showed Eva and Luke’s most relevant friendships. Eva’s unintended patient-turned-confidante situation with Agnes was a wonderful surprise, especially since their professional relationship had been quite rocky. While at times it feels as though Luke’s friendship with his restorer Russ is more on an acquaintance level, I really appreciated the dynamic between them. What I related to and valued the most from Bundock’s writing was the way he interjected the characters’ innermost thoughts into conversation. I am specifically reminded of a couple of scenes, one of Luke and the other of Eva, where we see a conversation playing out but are given a peek into what they are actually thinking as they are listening to their counterpart speak. Bundock sets the scene and gives us a taste of what is going on, and then offers up those deep thoughts in short and fleeting sentences. I think it’s safe to say that we have all been in some sort of situation where we feel like things are going awry and it’s hard to concentrate at the conversation or task at hand because of such thoughts. It generally takes some time and apprehension for me to dig into a genre I am not familiar with, but that wasn’t the case for me and The Mirror Shop. I look forward to seeing what else Nicholas Bundock has in store!"
