Your data, and what little I hold

Who is responsible

Amsterdam Publishers, run by Liesbeth Heenk, is the data controller for this website. You can reach me at info@amsterdampublishers.com about anything on this page.

Amsterdam Publishers is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 52132609, at Postbox C5965, Keurenplein 41, 1069 CD Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

What I collect, and why

When you email me. If you write to me — through the address on the contact page or anywhere else — I receive your email address, your name, and whatever you choose to put in your message. I use it only to reply and to keep a record of our correspondence. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in answering you, or the steps taken at your request before any agreement.

When you submit a manuscript. The submission form asks for your name, email, an optional phone number, a short synopsis, and the manuscript file itself, along with a few details about the book. I use this solely to assess your work for possible publication. Legal basis: taking steps at your request before entering into a publishing agreement, and your consent in sending it.

If you are one of my authors. The private author portal holds the profile details needed to run our working relationship — your name, email, a short biography, links you choose to share, and your general location. Legal basis: performance of your publishing agreement, and my legitimate interest in running the portal. I never publish authors’ home addresses or phone numbers.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. The one exception is the author portal: when an author signs in, a single strictly-necessary session cookie keeps them logged in. It carries no tracking data, is not shared with anyone, and is not set for ordinary visitors. Under the ePrivacy rules this kind of essential cookie does not require consent.

Analytics

I use Vercel Analytics to see, in aggregate, which pages are read and which aren’t — page views, general location (country level), device type, and which site referred you here. It sets no cookies, cannot identify you as an individual, and does not track you across other websites. I use it only to understand what’s useful on this site, never for advertising.

Who else touches your data

I keep the list of service providers short, and each one acts only on my instructions:

• Vercel — hosts the website, stores submitted manuscript files, and provides the cookieless analytics described above.
• Resend — delivers the notification and sign-in emails the site sends.
• Sanity — the content system that holds the catalogue and author-portal profiles.
• Google Workspace — hosts my email inbox, where your messages arrive.

Some of these providers are based in, or transfer data to, the United States and other countries outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by appropriate safeguards — such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. I do not sell your data, and I never share it for anyone else’s marketing.

How long I keep it

Manuscript submissions are kept only for as long as I am considering them, and are deleted when the review concludes or on your request. Author-portal data is kept for the duration of our publishing relationship. Correspondence is kept as long as needed to handle it and to meet the record-keeping periods Dutch law requires for business and tax records.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask me to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how I use it, or hand it to another provider. Where I rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Just write to info@amsterdampublishers.com and I’ll act on it.

If you believe I’ve handled your data wrongly, you also have the right to complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Security and children

Data sent through this site travels over an encrypted connection, and manuscript files are stored under unguessable URLs, not in any public listing. The site and its services are meant for adult authors and readers; I don’t knowingly collect data from children under 16.

Changes

If the site ever starts doing more than it does today, I’ll update this page and change the date at the top before that happens. This version is effective 13 August 2026.
