Submit your Manuscript
Amsterdam Publishers receives far more manuscripts than can be published, but every submission that meets the requirements below is carefully considered.
- A complete manuscript. Send the entire, clean file – no sample chapters, an outline, or a work in progress.
- A Word document. A .doc or .docx file — not a PDF.
- Clean and carefully edited. Please send your best work — readable and largely free of errors. Every book I accept will be professionally edited again, and I cannot consider a rough or unedited draft.
- A memoir or biography. Non-fiction only. Novels and historical fiction are no longer accepted.
- English-language manuscripts only. A foreign-language edition is never the starting point.
- At least 60,000 words. Shorter works cannot be considered.
- A book blurb and an author bio.
- An original work. Preferably in US spelling, with minimal formatting such as page breaks and chapter breaks.
- Agented or direct. Both agented manuscripts and direct submissions are welcome.
- A hybrid publishing fee applies. I charge a one-time fee but return a larger share of the royalties to the author than most publishers do. Only a small number of submissions are selected.
- If your file is too large to upload. For example, because it contains many images — please email me directly. I currently do not respond to requests from foreign publishers who want to sell translation or publication rights.
